On 6th September 1999 an angel was born into the world- James Leslie Copsey- My nephew... He was my
sister's second born child, brother to Lee.
Sadly on Tuesday the 2nd of November 1999 he was cruelly taken away from us aged just 8 weeks old.
The weekend leading up to his death James was unwell so my sister contacted the doctors surgery to
be told that James was suffering from colic. My sister struggled through the weekend trying to calm
down his crying. I stayed with her that weekend and helped her to settle him. Monday morning i
returned home and took Lee with me to give my sister a break. She later phoned to inform me that
James had started to settle down and that he finished an 8 ounce bottle of formula milk before going
to sleep. The very next morning i received the devastating news of his passing. I almost collaspsed
when i heard what had happened. My sister awoke on the tuesday morning startled to realise that
James had not woke her for his morning feed. What she discovered can only be described as every
mothers nightmare. James was dead in his cot. He had passed away in the night. My sister tried in
vain to awake him but it was too late...
An ambulance was called and James was taken away for a post mortem. His babygrow was analysed, and
the hospital came to the conclusion that he died from a cot death. I travelled to Watford with my
nephew Lee to support my sister, how she stayed strong i will never know.
On the day of James' funeral the hospital phoned my sister to explain that they now believed
that James died from a viral infection in his lungs & windpipe. They said that his respiratory
system just 'stopped working'. To hear this on the day her son was to be laid to rest was
just astonishing, and to top it off, my sister had previously ordered a cuddly toy for James which
ironically arrived on the day of the funeral also.
James' birthday is approaching. I can't believe he would be nine years old! I would just
like to say to my sister, Ayesha I think you are an amazing person. You have been so strong these
past 9 years and i know you still think about James everyday. Just know that he watches over you and
his brothers & sisters. I am so privileged that i got to spend that weekend with him. He may
have been with us a short time, but i will NEVER forget him! R.I.P sweetheart! xxx
